Welcome to Kayak Thailand
About Us
Kayak Thailand is based in the beautiful pristine coastal area of Chumphon, an area mostly untouched by tourism.
Beautiful rivers meandering through mangrove forests teeming with birds, small bays with white powdery beaches next to limestone formations containing caves leading to hidden lagoons, scenic nearby islands with lush jungle and coral reefs. These are some of the things that make it a fantastic place for kayaking.
At Kayak Thailand we aim to give people a unique kayaking experience. We keep our groups very small and offer a variety of day trips in totally pristine areas.
Chumphon has not yet been affected by tourism in a bad way and we aim to keep it like that. Travelling by kayak we don't interfere with the environment or make any noise, often wildlife doesn't hear us coming and so doesn't hide from us.
Our tours are designed for first time kayakers and novices, experience is certainly not necessary. We train beginners and novices during the trip.
Also you definitely do not need to be an athlete to join us, we go at the pace you feel comfortable at going. Experienced kayakers are of course also welcome, we can make our trips shorter or longer to suit your needs.
We use sit on top kayaks made by the brands "hobie" and "feel free", we have both single canoes and canoes in which 2 people can sit.
Our Hobie canoes are great for going snorkeling and fishing. They have special fishing rod holders and have a lot of storage space to take all your snorkeling gear. These boats are extremely stable and very easy to get into and out of for when you for example want to go snorkeling. You just look for a nice spot, lower down your small anchor and get into the water.
At our clubhouse we also offer a variety of other activities such as: kitesurfing, mountainboarding, jungle walks, windsurfing, surfing, archery, snorkeling/diving trips, fishing trips, beach volleyball and a variety of other beach games.
LOCATION
Our clubhouse is based at Tung Wa Laen beach which is a 15 minute drive from Chumphon town. At this pretty beach there is a small laid back community where you can stay at bungalows right by the beach, prices range between 300 and 800 baht, there is also the 3 star Cabana resort.
Along Tung Wa Laen beach there are several very good restaurants and a few beach bars. Our clubhouse from which we depart on canoeing trips, is located at the north end of the beach, besides the aforementioned activities we also offer drinks, books and movies every night. HOW TO GET TO CHUMPHON
Chumphon is on the east coast of Thailand about 450 kilometres south of Bangkok. Rumour has it that Chumphon airport will be opening again soon.In the meantime you can get to Chumphon in the following ways:
1) You can fly to Surat Thani (35 minutes) and then take a taxi or minivan to Chumphon. It's a 2 hour drive from Surat Thani to Chumphon. Minivans go every hour from town.
2) If you are in Bangkok you can take the train or bus, travelling time is approximately 6 hours. Thailand has a good bus system, from anywhere in Thailand you can reach Chumphon quite easily.
3) There are fast boats going from Koh Samui via Koh Phang Ngan and Koh Tao to Chumphon, this way you can also check out some of these islands.
Once you are in Chumphon just tell the tuk tuk or taxi driver to go to Tung Wa Laen beach. |
