CORAL BEACH

Level: Easy

Season:  March to end of September

Features: Small bays with white beaches, islands surrounded by lagoons, birdlife, limestone formations with tunnels leading to hidden lagoons.

This trip starts at the aptly named "Coral Beach". On the way to small islands just 300 metres offshore we cross a crystal clear lagoon full of colour created by the underlying coral. On the islands many sea birds are to be found.

Following the coast we encounter stunning limestone formations with in between beautiful small bays with white powdery beaches.

Inside these limestone formations we have found a number of "Hongs", or hidden lagoons. Going inside a Hong is a very exciting experience.

CAT ISLAND

Level: Easy

Season: All year round.

Features: Very tall limestone formations with hidden lagoons and birdlife.An island with a population of cats.

We start off from a small fishing village and head out to "Cat Island", to your surprise as you arrive at the beach a number of cats and one dog come down to meet you, they are the inhabitants of this small island. There are about 20 cats and one dog living there, every evening their owners return in their fishing boat and take care of them.

Just around the corner we visit a "Hong", a hidden lagoon inside the limestone formations of this small island. We then paddle a short way across to a bigger island with stunning limestone karst topography hundreds of metres high. The air is filled with tunes of singing birds. Here we visit another Hong.

MU KO NATIONAL PARK

Level:   easy

Season:  all year

Features:  Mangrove forest, river, bird and aquatic life, big limestone formations, estuary, beach with temple.

We start upriver and float/paddle down the main river whilst admiring the many birds including a large variety of Kingfishers, Herons and Sea Eagles in the surrounding forests. We then turn into a small side arm of the river and a whole new world is seen, we find ourselves going through tunnels of mangrove vegetation with rays of sunlight coming through giving the scenery a dreamlike quality. Almost every time we have been here we have seen monkeys, these monkey's eat the crabs that live in the mangroves and they are often called crab eating monkeys.

We then reach the sea and the scenery suddenly completely changes again.We enter a bay surrounded by big mountains, making it a very special sight.

We then paddle along the scenic coast to around the corner of the bay where there is a beach with a temple just behind it, a good place for a swim.

SQUID FISHING

Season : March to September.

Price : 250 baht minimum of 2 people per trip

Just 400 metres away from your bungalow we paddle across a reef and while watching the sun go down fish for squid. We then cook our catch over a fire on the beach.


KITE KAYAKING

Level : Moderate

Season : March/April

Features : Kayaking with kitepower, beautiful beaches, limestone formations with caves and hidden lagoons, small islands with birdlife.

Price : 1 day trip 2,500 baht minimum of 2 people per trip

We use a small kite to pull us in our canoes down the coast,this is a very enjoyable and relaxing way to see all the sights. When we reach an area with hongs (limestone formations with hidden lagoons) and small bays with beautiful beaches, we land our kites and paddle around.
